5 reasons to include more citrus fruits in your routine

Monday April 15th, 2024

Did you know that Brazil is one of the largest exporters of citrus fruits in the world, coming right after China? According to the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the country has favorable climatic conditions for the cultivation of these fruits, such as oranges, lemons, tangerines, and limes, in various regions, with the state of São Paulo being the largest national producer.

The Frutas do Brasil project — an internationalization program promoted by the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Fruit Derivatives Producers Exporters (Abrafrutas) in partnership with the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (ApexBrasil) — has more than 35 participants who produce and export citrus fruits. For this reason, we have separated 5 reasons to include more citrus fruits in your routine. Check them out below:

  • Source of vitamin C: Citrus fruits are known for being rich in vitamin C, an essential nutrient to strengthen the immune system, promote skin health, and aid in iron absorption.
  • Promote hydration: Many citrus fruits, such as oranges and tangerines, have a high water content, making them an excellent option to keep the body hydrated, especially on hot days.
  • Rich in antioxidants: Citrus fruits contain antioxidants like flavonoids, which help fight the damage of free radicals in the body, reducing the risk of chronic diseases and promoting cardiovascular health.
  • Aid in digestion: The fiber present in citrus fruits, such as those found in grapefruits and lemons, can help in digestion, prevent constipation, and promote a healthy intestinal transit.
  • Low calorie content: Citrus fruits are generally low in calories and contain insignificant amounts of saturated fat, making them a healthy option for those looking to maintain or lose weight.

Brazilian citrus fruits are internationally recognized for their quality and variety, contributing to Brazil’s strong presence in the global fruit market. Additionally, the country invests in technology and advanced agricultural practices to increase productivity and the quality of exported products, consolidating its position as one of the world’s leading suppliers of citrus fruits.

Incorporating citrus fruits into your daily diet can bring a series of health benefits, as well as adding color and refreshing flavor to your meals.
