Brazilian delegation arrives in India for a business mission promoted by the Brazilian government

Wednesday November 1st, 2023

Guilherme Coelho, Abrafrutas’ president, is joining a Brazilian business delegation on a mission to India, held between November 1st and 5th. Abrafrutas will take part in the trip through another action held by the Frutas do Brasil project — the export program of the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas), with the support from the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).

The mission has multiple goals, with emphasis on strengthening trade relations between Brazil and India, as well as resolving sanitary and phytosanitary issues that directly impact fruit trade between the two countries.

President Guilherme, along with Jorge de Souza, Abrafrutas’ technical manager, and other representatives of the Brazilian private sector, have scheduled bilateral meetings with Indian authorities that will address the quality and safety of exported products. The delegation will also participate in a business seminar in New Delhi. Sectoral meetings and business encounters will be held during the event, with the aim of identifying new collaboration opportunities and promoting increased trade flow between Brazil and India.

One of the mission’s highlights is a dinner at the ambassador’s residence, organized by the Brazil-India Chamber of Commerce. The event will gather both the official and the business delegation, in addition to prominent guests from the Indian scene. Furthermore, the Brazilian delegation will also visit Brazil’s Pavilion and participate in the renowned World Food India fair, a prominent platform for product exhibition, networking and commercial collaboration in the international food industry. The fair’s opening will be attended by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, adding prestige to the event.

President Guilherme Coelho emphasizes the importance of this mission for Abrafrutas and the fruit growing sector in Brazil, highlighting the potential to generate significant opportunities for increasing trade and strengthening bilateral cooperation on issues of mutual interest. India is currently the second largest fruit producer in the world – Brazil is in third position.

In this year’s first quarter, Brazil exported around 13.6 million tons of fruit to India, generating revenue of more than 11.8 million dollars. The goal of this mission is to further expand these numbers and deepen trade relations between the two countries.
