Meet Frutas do Brasil’s grape producers and exporters

Monday March 4th, 2024

Brazilian grapes have gained prominence in the international market, not only for their quality, but also for the efficiency of producers and exporters who are part of the Frutas do Brasil project — an internationalization program promoted by the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas) in partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). These companies have expanded the presence of Brazilian grapes in global markets, taking the benefits of this much-loved fruit overseas.

In recent years, exports have shown constant growth, driven by the quality of products and the efficiency of producers and exporters. In 2023, for example, Brazilian grape exports reached a record value of 73 thousand tons, representing an increase of 40.38% compared to the previous year.

In addition to being naturally sweet and delicious, grapes are an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Its regular consumption can help prevent heart disease, combat premature aging and even improve brain health.

Brazilian grapes are grown in different regions of the country, which results in a great diversity of flavors and characteristics. From table grapes to those intended for the production of wines and juices, Brazil offers a variety that meets different demands and palates around the world.

Although Rio Grande do Sul stands out as the largest grape producer in Brazil, it is the São Francisco Valley that stands out as the leading region in exports. Pernambuco and Bahia, members of the São Francisco Valley, emerge as the main exporting states, with 59.63% and 36.94% of exports, respectively. This scenario highlights the importance of this region for the foreign trade of Brazilian grapes.

Producers

Brazilian producers are fundamental to promoting the excellence of the grapes in international markets, contributing to the growth of the sector and strengthening the image of Brazilian agricultural products abroad. With a unique combination of quality, diversity and commitment to sustainable practices, the grape producers and exporters of the Frutas do Brasil project continue to gain space and recognition around the world. Jorge de Souza, project manager at Abrafrutas, highlights: “We have a lot to add to international markets and we are at events such as Fruit Logistica, Fruit Attraction, APAS Show, Gulfood, among others, presenting the fruits, showing our quality and commitment to sustainable practices”.
