Last Thursday, December 15, entrepreneurs from the Brazilian fruit sector got together for quite a closing of the past year: the Abrafrutas 2022 Awards.The event, which took place in Brasília, was organized by the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Derivatives (Abrafrutas). The goal was to present the sum of the results of its 2022 affiliates in the international trade of fruits and derivatives, discuss the entity’s strategic planning for the coming years and continue the process of continuous improvement in the activities under the Association’s management.

One of the honorees of the evening was the president of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), Augusto Pestana. ApexBrasil is a partner of Abrafrutas in Frutas do Brasil (Fruits of Brazil), a sectoral project to encourage exports and fundamental in the promotion of fruits and derivatives in international markets.

In addition to ApexBrasil’s president, other important names in Brazilian agribusiness were celebrated, such as Carlos Prado, president of Itaueira and one of Abrafrutas’ founders and creator. According to Prado, the association is a respected institution that meets the sector’s demands concerning the development of fruit growing by promoting fruit exports, generating around 5 million direct and indirect jobs.

The president of the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), Carlos Melles; the president of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), Celso Moretti; the Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite; the Minister of Agriculture, Marcos Montes; the former minister and senator-elect Tereza Cristina; the president of CNA, João Martins; the president of GS1, João Carlos de Oliveira; sectors of the specialized press such as Canal Rural, Agro+, Terra Viva, Globo Rural, Valor Econômico and the state deputy of São Paulo, Frederico d’Ávila, were the other authorities awarded for the efficient interlocution and political importance given to the Brazilian fruit growing, which resulted in strong advances.

Guilherme Coelho, Abrafrutas’ president, was the one who closed the award ceremony. In his speech, Coelho thanked everyone who works for the growth and development of Brazilian fruit growing. “I believe in agriculture, in this sector that generates millions of jobs and income. We have space and capacity to grow more and more. I thank everyone who helped us reach the level we are today”, concluded the president.

After the awards, all the present were invited to participate in a cocktail offered by Abrafrutas.
