Avocado e Super Bowl: uma combinação que agita os Estados Unidos

Hass Avocado and Super Bowl. Would you say there is a relation between these two? Apparently not, but do know they are extremely connected.

Super Bowl is one of the greatest sports event, watched not only in the United States but also all around the world. It is one of the dates with the largest food consumption in the United States. And the most consumed fruit on the weekend of this event is our famous Hass avocado.

The Hass avocado is one of the smallest varieties of the avocado family. Its pulp is super concentrated with vitamins, antioxidants and minerals. The secret is that inside the dark green or brown peel it has less water and more essential oils. This also guarantees a more firm and versatile texture, a great attractive for several chefs.

Now, Let´s go back to Super Bowl and understand the relation in the rise of Hass avocado consumption in the period of the sports event. Historically and traditionally, Super Bowl is an event where the families gather with friends, cheer and celebrate the sport. And the Hass avocado for being a super versatile fruit, for complementing a dish served fresh or to compose a recipe, it is easy to manipulate and it ended up taking over the taste preference of several people around the world.

According to the fruit import data in the United States, in the first four weeks of January this year, the United States imported around 93.5 thousand tons of avocado.

According to the newspaper Insider, the avocado prices have reached a record while Super Bowl Sunday approaches. The event takes place on February 13, 2022. The price of the fruit goes up because there is a huge demand in this time of the year. The publication also says that the famous guacamole can cost more this season, considering that the avocado prices have reached the peak.

Brazil is one of the major avocado producers in the world. In 2018, more than 235 thousand tons were produced – the expectation of the Brazilian Association for Avocado Producers (ABPA) is to double the production in the following years.

The main producing states are: São Paulo (21,216 t), Minas Gerais (50,751 t), Paraná (20,003 t), Rio Grande do Sul (4,520 t) and Distrito Federal (3,050 t). The world´s production is around 5.9 million tons.
