Brazil Breaks Lime Export Record at the Start of the Second Half of the Year
Brazil began the second half of 2025 with impressive results in lime exports. Data from Abrafrutas indicates that in July alone, approximately 27,000 tons of the fruit were sold, generating around US$29 million in revenue. In August, the country exported an additional 15,800 tons, placing limes in the second position among the most exported fruits, ahead of melons and preserves. “Brazilian lime exports are growing year after year, volumes are increasing, and prices remain stable,” says Luiz Eduardo Raffaelli, Institutional Director at Abrafrutas.
While harvesting the results achieved in the first half of the year, Frutas do Brasil — the internationalization project of the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas), in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) — is already looking ahead to the results of the coming months. The executive stated that Brazil is currently negotiating access to the Chinese market for Brazilian limes. Additionally, the new partnership with India is expected to yield positive results before the end of 2025.
This expansion into China and India is expected to drive not only an increase in cultivated areas, but also income generation, job creation (especially for small producers) and a more equitable distribution of benefits across the production chain. Currently, the lime sector employs approximately 150,000 workers.
5th Largest Global Lime Exporter
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has ranked Brazil among the top five lime exporters in the world. In the first six months of the year alone, the country exported over 106,000 tons of the fruit. This result was 18% higher compared to the same period last year.
