Brazilian delegation stands out at Asia Fruit Logistica, promoting quality fruits

Tuesday September 19th, 2023

The Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives (ABRAFRUTAS) gathered attention and stood out at the most recent edition of Asia Fruit Logistica, the main fresh fruit and vegetable trade fair in Asia, held in Hong Kong last week. The event united the main fields of the global fresh product market and its entire value chain, providing a showcase for Brazilian products and expanding in the Asian market.

The Brazilian delegation, made up of ten fruit exporting companies, participated in the event with the support of Frutas do Brasil — the export program of the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), with the support from the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). Brazil’s  relevant attendance in Asia Fruit Logistica reflects the country’s growing interest and importance in the global fruit and agricultural products industries.

Guilherme Coelho, president of ABRAFRUTAS, highlighted the importance of Brazil’s participation in the event, stating “it is an opportunity for the country to demonstrate its agricultural diversity and to highlight the quality of the fruits produced in our territory”.

Brazil currently exports around 30.2 thousand tons of fruit to the Middle East, with apples leading as the most exported fruit, with a total of 26.5 thousand tons. “Brazil is known worldwide for the production of tropical fruits, such as mangoes, pineapples, bananas, among others, and temperate climate fruits, like  apples, pears and grapes. This wide recognition comes from the fruits’ quality and their unique flavors, which arouse global interest”, the president quoted .

In addition to establishing commercial contacts, representatives of the Brazilian agricultural sector at the fair met distributors, importers and other business partners, strengthening commercial ties with the Asian region. The growing demand from Asian consumers for tropical fruits and healthy products stood out as a crucial factor for Brazil’s presence at the event, as the country is a leader in the sector.

The promotion of best practices in agriculture and the commitment to sustainability in Brazilian fruit production were also highlighted. Asian consumers are increasingly valuing the origin and sustainability of the products they consume, and Brazil has the opportunity to show its commitment to responsible production.

Brazil’s participation in international fairs such as Asia Fruit Logistica offers a unique opportunity for the country to learn from other sector leaders in Asia and around the world. This includes exchanging knowledge about cultivation, packaging and transportation techniques, as well as identifying new market trends that can be applied in the agricultural sector.

Brazil’s attendance at the fair is a crucial strategy to consolidate and expand its presence in the Asian fruit and agricultural product market. By showcasing product diversity, promoting sustainable practices and establishing commercial connections, Brazil is contributing to strengthening its position as an important player in the global food and agricultural industry, meeting the growing demand for healthy, high-quality agricultural products in the Asian region.
