Frutas do Brasil Lisbon Festival promotes closer ties between Brazilian producers and Portuguese importers

Friday March 17th, 2023

On February 2nd, the Frutas do Brasil Lisbon Festival, an event organized by the Frutas do Brasil project – the export program of the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives (Abrafrutas), with the support from the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) – took place. The initiative had its first edition in 2023, at the official residence of the Brazilian Ambassador in Lisbon, Portugal.

The purpose of the action was to promote Brazilian fruits in the international market and assist Portuguese importing companies which are struggling to contact Brazilian exporting fruit growers directly.

During the event, the project manager at Abrafrutas, Jorge de Souza, presented an overview of Brazilian fruit growing, which is the third largest in the world in terms of production. The European Union is currently one of the main destinations for Brazilian fruit exports. Portugal is among the countries which imported the most in 2022, with more than 23,000 tons of Brazilian fruit shipped to the country.

According to Jorge de Souza, the event was an opportunity to distribute a list with the contacts of all exporters to expand commercial actions. For Carlos Eduardo Senareli Teixeira, commercial representative of the Sebastião da Manga Group in Europe, the Frutas do Brasil Lisbon Festival was an excellent opportunity for new business and to reconnect with old customers.

“The action allowed us to initiate important contacts with Portuguese importers and, mainly, with the so-called large surfaces”, stated Teixeira. He also highlighted the commitment of the event organizers, who made an excellent effort to ensure that there was integration between the company and the representatives of the attending Portuguese companies.

According to the commercial representative, the direct participation of Ambassador Raimundo Carreiro Silva in the event’s opening, and also his wife, Maria José Ávila, who kindly opened the official residence, was fundamental in the negotiations period during the action. “Abrafrutas represents us with excellence and we are proud of this partnership”, concluded Teixeira.
