A classic dessert, which is served every year at the June festival, a traditional event in Brazilian culture. The candy apples, known as “Love Apples” in Brazil, are a big hit, after all, they’re a delicious dessert! Discover how to prepare this recipe with us!
Check out below the necessary ingredients and the step by step:
Ingredients
- apple (10 units)
- 450g of sugar (2 and 1/2 cups)
- 240mL of water (1 cup)
- 15 ml of alcohol or apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon)
- 15 g of powdered red food coloring (1 tablespoon)
How to prepare
- Preparing the apples:
Wash and dry the apples well. Insert a popsicle or a barbecue stick into each apple, on the stem side, and set aside.
- Preparing the syrup:
In a heavy-bottomed pan, mix the sugar with water, white vinegar and the powdered food coloring if you want a more intense color. Mix well and lead to low fire, without moving it further.
- Testing if the syrup is on point:
After approximately 20 minutes, start testing the syrup. If you have a cooking thermometer, the ideal point will be when the syrup reaches about 145°C. If you don’t have a thermometer, do a simple test: take a spoonful of the syrup and throw it into a glass of water. Then take some of the firm syrup and throw it into some container. If it makes a noise similar to glass, the syrup is on point.
- Bathing the apples:
At this point, remove the pan from the heat and wait 1 to 2 minutes before bathing the apples. Make sure you don’t take too long, as the syrup sets quickly. Dip each apple into the syrup, turning it slowly to cover the fruit’s entire surface. Let the excess drip off and place the apples on a silicone mat or a smooth surface greased with butter to dry them out.
Now just wait until the syrup hardens completely and the apples are ready to be enjoyed. This recipe is a delicious option for parties, events or to sweeten your day! You can serve them right away or wrap them individually in cellophane paper for a prettier presentation.
