Brazil exceeds expectations in fruit export and forecasts record in the first quarter of 2025

Friday April 4th, 2025

The Brazilian fruit industry continues to demonstrate its strength and ability to supply the world with high quality fruits. In the first two months of 2025, the country exported 210,000 tons, reaching a revenue of USD 188 million.

The year 2025 promises to be a milestone for the Frutas do Brasil project, an initiative of the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruits and Fruit Products (Abrafrutas) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). This collaboration seeks to boost the presence of Brazilian fruits in the international market, consolidating Brazil as one of the main global players in the industry.

The main destinations for Brazilian fruits at the beginning of the year were the Netherlands – 92 thousand tons (USD 72 million); the United Kingdom – 40 thousand tons (USD 33.5 million), and Spain – 39.5 thousand tons (USD 32.5 million). Melons (79,500 tons), watermelons (45,000 tons), and lemons and limes (31,000 tons) are among the most exported fruits.

This performance adds to an already consolidated growth trajectory. In 2024, Brazil exported more than 1 million tons of fruit, generating revenue of more than USD 1.287 billion — an increase of almost 4% in value.

A strategic point for the sector is the recent agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, which should currently reduce tariffs between 4% and 14% on Brazilian fruits, facilitating access to the European market and boosting exports.

Jorge de Souza, a technical manager at Abrafrutas, says that the first results of the year demonstrate Brazil’s productive capacity. “The growth in exports in these first two months shows that the country is expected to break records in 2025 and continue to be preferred by international markets.”
