Papaya in focus: get to know some of the producers cultivating 1.5 million tons of this fruit on Brazilian soil every year
Papaya is a widely cultivated and cherished fruit in Brazil, and its export potential has been explored by numerous producers. Standing out among them are six companies and one association, all dedicated to cultivating and exporting this flavorful and nutritious fruit. They actively participate in the Frutas do Brasil project — the export program of the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas), with the support from the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). According to estimates from the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the global production of papaya reaches 6.8 million tons annually, with 1.5 million tons grown on Brazilian soil.
