Brazil Exports 45,000 Tons of Bananas in the First Half of 2025, Projecting a Record Harvest

Friday August 29th, 2025

Brazilian banana exports recorded a robust performance in the first six months of 2025, driven by market expansion and the initiatives of Frutas do Brasil, the internationalization project of the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivatives Producers and Exporters (Abrafrutas), in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).

Data from Abrafrutas show that Brazil exported over 45,000 tons of bananas during this period, generating approximately $16 million in revenue. The state of Santa Catarina was the leading contributor, accounting for 26,300 tons — more than half of total exports.

This growth is attributed to an expansion of cultivated area, which has increased to 28,400 hectares, which now spans 28,400 hectares, coupled with strong yields from the state’s primary varieties. Caturra (also known as Nanica or Dwarf Cavendish) production is expected to rise by 18%, while Prata output should grow by 15.2%.

The top export markets were Argentina, Uruguay, and the Netherlands, which together imported 38,000 tons of Brazilian bananas.
